While a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army, Mark was nominated and selected to be the Commander of the Data Systems Unit (Chief Information Officer civilian equivalent) for the Clinton White House from 1995 to 1999. His mission was to provide safe and secure, Information Technology and Communication to the President, Vice President, White House Staff, and U.S. Secret Service.
After spending around five years at The White House interacting with the President and his staff on a daily basis, he has a rare insight that few have seen about how the President and The White House operated behind closed doors.
Since retiring from the active Army Mark has held multiple senior leadership positions in the civilian sector in Information Technology, Information/Cyber Security, and Governance/Compliance fields as a CIO/CTO/CSO & CISO for several global companies.
Brigadier General (Retired) Gelhardt continued to give back to his country and his community as a member (2014-2023) and then Commanding General (2020-2023) of the all-volunteer Georgia State Defense Force (GSDF) a Georgia National Guard Auxiliary.
